- (Equipment Inventory & Maintenance Scheduler)

- This program maintains an equipment inventory, user defined
- maintenance costs for each item, and scheduled maintenance for each
- item. Maintenance can be scheduled for almost anything needed.
- Although based on time schedules, this can still be used for at
- least checking other maintenance based systems.
-
- The program offers virtually unlimited record capacities.
- It also uses auto lookup tables and scrolling record windows for
- ease of use. It will even blank your monitor screen after 10
- minutes of inactivity to protect it from burn in.
-
- Depending on your particular needs, a quick check can be made
- periodically to see what maintenance is due. You will probably
- want to print scheduled reports on a timely basis for this purpose.
- A date prompt is provided so as to enter a later date if desired.
- This gives the capability of planning a schedule for perhaps a week
- or month ahead of time. A display option is also available for
- fast checks and maintenance updates. (See registered version below)

- Although the program is primarily designed for scheduled
- maintenance and costs, repairs can be maintained just as well.
- Scheduled maintenance days have to be provided however. To avoid
- listing repair records in the scheduled maintenance reports and
- displays, create separate records for this purpose. You can enter
- a large number of days such as 9999 which will create a future date
- that will be meaningless for all practical purposes.

- Requirements for this program are at least 512k ram and a
- proper CONFIG.SYS file in the root directory. A hard disk is
- also highly recommended. This is a large application and a separate
- directory should be created for it's use. Please see CONFIG.SYS
- below for further information concerning this file.

- Please read the following instructions before using, especially
- the section explaining the use of the keyboard keys in the program.
- Sample files are included for test purposes. You may delete the
- records when thru with them. You can also copy the program file
- EIMS.EXE only, it will create the necessary data files. To start
- the program, enter EIMS at the prompt.

- If you like this program, registration is only 35.00. You
- will then be sent the enhanced registered version with additional
- features such as the option of displaying the maintenance due on
- screen and additional compact summary cost reports.

- The program is straight forward with the following steps:
-
- 1. Add Equipment records. Main Menu option B
- 2. Add Maint descriptions '' '' '' D
- 3. Add eqpt Locations '' '' '' E
- 4. Add Maintenance records. '' '' '' C
- 5. Enter and process maintenance. '' '' '' A
- 6. Use reports as needed. '' '' '' F

- The order shown is for first time use. Many items can be added
- when their tables are displayed for lookup purposes from various
- data prompts by simply pressing the INSert key.

- FUNCTION KEY USAGE
-
- The following keyboard keys are used in the multiple record
- table windows. A popup window will appear from these keystrokes.
- A description of the action will appear in this window such as
- 'This record will be added' or 'Press ENTER to delete'. You can
- press the ESC key to cancel or in the case of the deletion, press
- ENTER and the record is then removed. You may find it easier to
- add records by being situated where you want to add the record...
- thus the use of the INSert key.

- KEY FUNCTION
- ------- ---------------------------------------------
- INSert Used for adding new records. Record will
- automatically be inserted in proper position.

- DELete Used for deleting highlighted records.
-
- ENTER Used for changing highlighted record.
-
- ESC Cancel or exit.
-
- ARROWS These keys are used to scroll thru the records
- one at a time.
-
- PgUp Displays previous window of records.
-
- PgDn Displays next window of records.
-
- CTRL PgUp Displays records from beginning of file.
-
- CTRL PgDn Displays records from end of file.
-
- LOCATOR Locator fields are used to locate records more
- quickly. As you enter the number desired, the
- program will highlight the nearest record found.
- These are located in the upper left corners of
- the record table windows.

- The data entry windows are fairly straight forward. You simply
- add or change data as needed with the ENTER key. Use of the ESC key
- can also restore data if you wish. The ARROW keys can also be used to
- step thru the data fields. If your data is correct, you can also
- press CTRL-ENTER and not have to step thru the fields.

- Lookup fields are also used thruout the program. If prompted
- for a number for example, you can enter the number desired or if
- blank simply press ENTER. Choices will then be displayed in a table.
- The table will also be displayed if the number you enter does not
- exist. If the number is new, it can be added by simply pressing the
- insert key. Where appropriate, some tables will automatically pop
- up for your choices.

- SCREEN BLANKER
-
- The program has a built in feature that will blank the monitor
- screen after 10 minutes of inactivity. This feature is to help
- protect your screen from burn in. Simply press one of the arrow
- keys to refresh the screen display.

- Main Menu option A Maintenance Transactions
-
- Use this option to enter your routine maintenance costs. A
- menu will pop up for the options available. Option A will display
- the record table. If there are no records then the program will
- display the data entry window to start adding them, otherwise use
- the keyboard keys as described above.
-
- Two reports can be printed for your records if desired. The
- report by reference could be useful to balance by invoice or dates.
- Your needs will dictate their usage.
-
- Make sure you have printed required reports before choosing
- the process entries option. They will be deleted at that time.
- When the transactions are posted, the costs are updated in the
- maintenance cost records and the date is used to update the next
- scheduled maintenance.
-
- Negative amounts can be entered by pressing the minus key
- after the number entered.
-

- Main Menu option B Equipment File
-
- Use this option to enter your equipment information. The
- sample records and reports should be helpful in establishing your
- file. Records are kept in the order of the equipment number so a
- well established numbering system will make it much easier for your
- reports, etc. You can use letters or numbers. The way letters and
- numbers are sorted however, you may want to use numbers only or
- only letters for the first few digits.

- If you would like to maintain an inventory by location then
- you will want to establish locations. A file is provided for this
- purpose. This also allows you to print various reports by location.
-
- A depreciation field is also provided for inventory purposes.

- Main Menu option C Maintenance File
-
- This file contains the maintenance costs and dates for scheduled
- maintenance reports.
-
- Scheduled maintenance is projected from the last date the
- maintenance was done plus the number of days entered for each needed
- follow up. Records must be established for each piece of equipment.
- Use the description file to establish like costs since they will
- allow you to run cost reports by their cost descriptions.
-
- Enter the number of days you want to schedule the item to appear
- on the scheduled maintenance display or report. As stated earlier,
- if you do not want the item used for scheduling, enter 9999 days and
- it will be scheduled well into the next century. This can be useful
- for repairs, fuel, or other purposes.

- Main Menu option D Description File
-
- Cost description records to be used in the maintenance records
- described above. These cost types are also used for costs by type
- reports.

- Main Menu option E Locations
-
- Records used to maintain locations of equipment.
-

- Main Menu option E Reports
-
- The descriptions on this menu should be self explanatory to
- produce the various reports generated by the program. The best way
- to find out which reports you need is to try them out. Use the
- sample records included for this purpose. You may want to add a few
- of your own before testing them. Even if you only want to use the
- program for scheduled maintenance, you may find features such as
- location and equipment value reports to be quite helpful.

- The maintenance scheduled report option allows you to enter
- the date you want to use for the report. If you would like to
- schedule the maintenance a week ahead then simply enter the next
- week ending date for the report.

- The display option will display the needed maintenance records
- as per entered date also. Since the record can be updated from this
- screen, this makes it very convenient to update the maintenance date
- while waiting for invoices etc. (See registered version above for
- this additional feature.)

- CONFIG.SYS file
-
- As stated above, the program will not work without a proper
- CONFIG.SYS file in your root directory. It should contain lines of
- code such as:
- files=24
- buffers=16
-
- You can use your editor to check for these lines of code. The
- numbers are not critical and can be less. What's important is that
- you have this file. You can check for it's existence by simply
- entering TYPE CONFIG.SYS at the prompt of your root directory. If
- DOS returns a file not found message, you can copy the CONFIG.DTA
- file included with this application. After it has been copied into
- your root directory, rename it CONFIG.SYS. You must restart your
- system for this file to take effect.

- in color, try entering MODE CO80 just prior to executing
- the program. If this problem is consistent with this or other
